'Tis The Season...

...For applications. SPF, O'Neill, Lark, and PlayPenn are all on the horizon.

Can I just pause to say that I would rather WORK ON my work than write ABOUT my work, ad my-and-everyone-else's nauseum?

On the other hand...
the annual trotting-out-of-artist-statement IS an opportunity, or CAN BE an opportunity, to clarify/revisit/reevaluate what we do, why we do it, how we situate our recent plays within the body of our work, how we situate our work within the landscape of contemporary theater, how we view the work of theater in the world.

And today, after a day of statement-wrestling, I'm feeling emboldened to get way more radical with a revision.

Always hovering, that question "how is my duty my opportunity?"
