The answer may be in the emotional sensitivity of the commenter. I personally would rather a written comment if it is unsolicited. There is nothing worse than a "drive by". People tend to have little to no concept of the power of their words and when they come at you like bullets with out any notice and then are gone leaving you to pick up the mess it is SO unproductive. Again, its all in the power of words.
