10,000 Hours? Really?

Read "Outliers" last week, the book by Michael Gladwell. He had many things to say. The one that stuck -- that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master your craft/reach "genius" level.

Math isn't my strong suit these days...but I believe that works out to about 20 hours a week for ten years.

Which is to say, time to get writing. That's a hell of a commitment. And yet -- that's the goal, isn't it? Mastery, commitment?

10,000 hrs or 10 yrs. That's what I've heard. So just work on plays/writing 2.74 hrs per day (11.5% of a 24 hr day), everyday, and you'll get to 10,000 hrs in 10 yrs. You make it sound like it's hard or something. It's just complete mastery of a craft. I do it all the time. I've been handsome 24/7/365. Got my 10,000 hrs by age 2. It's really not that hard.
