Crazy Idea

You know what would be really awesome?

A city-wide searchable database with the name, email, cell phone, and headshot of every actor in a city, that could be cross-referenced by gender, ethnicity, languages spoken, and age range. You could get really fancy and upload resumes? You could get really smart and note when people move or quit acting.

Apparently Remy Bumppo in Chicago has something similar. OMG, the time this would save when casting.

Why'd I think of this? Because I just spent the last three days chasing down last-minute replacement actors. And my other friend is casting a show and it's driving him crazy. And I know there are jazzy sites like that in NYC and Chicago, but they seem more corporate and less nuts-and-bolts than what I'm talking about...just something you could use to make a general call-sheet for auditions.

Would you settle for an active online theatre community in town that you could run to when you had a need?

I'm trying to work out the logistics of running such a thing, but I am by far the person I know who is most interested in such a thing... which wouldn't be very productive.

Travis,
It would totally be a start...I'd also be up for finding someone to build a database :)

And it's nice to know someone's reading this thing...messages in a bottle...
